SIDNEY SAIDSO SERIES
Reading is the Foundation for Representation
Learning Through Relatable Situations
The Sidney Saidso series is based on everyday school experiences seen through the eyes of a young black girl living in the inner city.
April noticed a lack of representation of children of color in literature and she felt that her students needed to see characters that are reminiscent of themselves and have similar experiences. The problems in these stories always portray a voice of reason and positive influence to help the characters think critically, solve problems, and promote pro-social behaviors.

The discussion questions at the end of the story provide teachers and parents a tool for enrichment, reading comprehension, and an opportunity to have fruitful conversations about texts.
